Top 5: Most Wanted SSASR DLC Characters on Wii

With the announcement of Banjo Kazooie in the 360 version and Ryo’s full-time Forklift as a DLC kart in Europe (and maybe North America), it makes you wonder if Sega is planning to have any console-specific DLC characters. Probably not, but it’s fun to imagine the possibilities. To celebrate Hedgehog Day, I’ll be posting a series of Top 5 Most Wanted SSASR DLC Characters for each console.
Speaking of imagining possibilities, let’s imagine that Nintendo was forward thinking with online technology and included a convenient way to have DLC on the Wii. Oh, what a world that would be.
Here’s my Top 5 Picks for Most Wanted Wii DLC Characters:

5. Captain Falcon
Back on the Gamecube, Nintendo was willing to loan its franchises out to third party developers for the sake of putting software on the system. This resulted the poorly received Starfox Assault and later Mario Party games, but a partnership with Sega gave the world F-Zero GX, a hard-as-nails futuristic racing game with skin-peeling speed, a wide assortment of racers and tracks, and enough corkscrews and loops to put Sonic to shame. Who would be better in this kooky kart racer than a man that can look at such insanity, and can still give a confident “Show me your moves!”

4. Jack from MadWorld
MadWorld was a very polarizing game; there were those that absolutely loved it, and those that could not get past its several, several faults. However, no one can deny that it has a really unique, interesting style. In this happy, colorful racer I’d love to see the black and white chainsaw wielding murderer going for that checkered flag. I mean, heck, they let two corpses on the track!

3. Raving Rabbids
There just aren’t enough funny games. For every comedy out there, there are three space marines blowing the heads off of aliens. Enter the Raving Rabbids, Ubisoft’s premiere Rayman spin-off that saw fantastic success at Wii’s launch. Not only would the deranged bunnies aesthetically fit with SSASR’s outrageous cast of geometric thieves and musical monkeys, but there are so many options for their kart! Pigs, yellow submarines, or my personal choice, the shopping cart from the latest installment.

2. Fox McCloud
Fifty thousand pocket monsters aside, Nintendo’s franchises are lacking in anthropomorphic protagonists. Sticking with their mustachioed lead, Nintendo avoided the crappy mascot era spawned by Sonic’s success. But they did make the interesting decision to take a fox, rabbit, frog, and falcon, and stick them in a forward scrolling space shooter. And somehow it worked! If the roster has room for three hedgehogs, then there’s certainly room for a second flying fox.

1. Mario
Mario and Sonic have taken their friendly rivalry public three times on the Wii. Given that Mario is the king of karting, I think it’s about time that they two go mano-a-mano for a true test of speed. And after my distaste for Mario Kart Wii, perhaps I can even imagine that I’m playing a good Mario Kart game.
Stay tuned later today for my choices for top 360 and PS3 DLC characters, and share your personal Wii picks in the comments!
