Sonic the Hedgehog 4: First Trailer and Details

Enjoy this for now, and check out the Gamespot interview. Here are a few of the specific details:

- The game will be episodic, but right now, it’s unclear how much it will cost, how much content each episode will have, and how many episodes will be released.  Leaked images from the official site, as reported by Sonic Stadium, show that Episode 1 will be out in July.  In another news post, Stadium reports that the site’s code suggests five zones in Episode 1.

- It will be coming out on XBLA, PSN, and WiiWare.  The HD versions will run in 1080p, while the Wii will support 480p.  Again, Sonic Stadium dug up that it will likely be coming to iPhone/iPod Touch.

- In what could loosely be described as the Sonic “timeline,” this game would come directly after Sonic & Knuckles.  Sonic will retain his classic Genesis moves, but he can also perform his post-Sonic Adventure homing attack.

- Sonicthehedgehog4.com, the official game site, is now open.  There’s nothing profoundly interesting up at this time, but time-based locks will periodically open up new information.  Tomorrow, there will be new “Game Info,” followed by characters, concept art, and game media over the next two weeks.

It’s too early to make any real judgment about the gameplay at this point, but based on what we’re seeing, it looks like things are on track.  I also wouldn’t invest too much into the non-gameplay footage.  Sonic’s running may look a bit wonky in the animation, but it might just be another situation of Sega not providing the trailer producers with enough art assets.

  1. It’s interesting to see the confirmation of a number of rumors just from that little article. Admittedly, I’m rather surprised about the revelation that it’s actually going to be Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but it also excites me a lot more than it did when it was still just a rumor.

  2. Well, it’s good that it’s coming to all platforms (Although HD on WiiWare might be a bit difficult). The game looks worth at least a demo download, if not the real thing. The only thing that slightly bugged me was that when he jumped on the enemies, he went up a bit too high before going forwards for my taste.

Also GX, your link is broken. Here’s the real one:

  3. i cant wait to get it

  4. Wow, the fact that it’s gonna be “Sonic 4″ is pretty awesome. Also, they’re making it a direct sequel to Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles, so that might mean that all the characters created after those games will be gone (Yay, no Shadow or Rouge!). Maybe this time they’ll actually attempt at a reboot.

  5. Actually Reaff I’m the same as you. This does make my jump a little…by an inch… ;)

  6. I see GX put up hedgehog picture.
