SSASR is not perfect, but it’s still a great game.  That’s really all I need to say about it.  It looks good, it plays well, and it has pocket rainbows full of Sega nostalgia.  I know the game was just released a few short weeks ago, but I’m already itching for some DLC to come out.

Though I’m trying to avoid Sonic 4 leaks until its release, my attitude about the game has shifted recently, especially with respect to its episodic nature.  I’m starting to imagine that the Sonic 3/Sonic & Knuckles comparison is valid, but on a much smaller scale.  If you consider the levels they’re offering and the opportunity to collect all 7 emeralds,  it suggests that Episode 1 will be a full Sonic experience shrunk way down to four zones.  If it’s true, I definitely would like that approach more than “Here’s a fraction of the game, stay tuned for the next chunk.”  I wouldn’t be too bothered by that form, and I still support the episodic format, but experiencing the whole does trump experiencing the fractured.

Though honestly, if it does release at a $5 price point, they could release it any dang-well way they please, and I’d still buy it gleefully.
